Groudbreaking and Fundraiser for THE HOPP.

You are invited to join us at the Groundbreaking and Fundraising Celebration for The Harvest Outreach People’s Project (The HOPP) which will be held at 10 A. M. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 330 East 30th Street in Wilmington. 

The HOPP, currently consisting of 27 United Methodist Churches, along with 8 nonprofit organizations and for-profit partners, provides food, social services, and technological support directly to people living in New Castle County. Our mission is to connect people with nonprofit agencies, building ongoing relationships between groups, helping to restore dignity, health, and opportunity within our communities.

In our first twelve months of distribution, The HOPP supplied our community with 329,000 pounds of food, 50,000 PPE products, and 15,000 blankets.

A grant from the Longwood Foundation will enable us to build our first building which will be 5000 square feet.  The land, which will be called “The Clarence Fraim Annex,” was acquired by Peninsula McCabe Church from one of our partners, The Delta Outreach and Education Center, Inc., which has an aligned core mission to provide educational and social services to the community. 

The HOPP Resource Center and Marketplace, located at 330 East 30th Street, will serve as the logistics outreach center to warehouse, build, and implement our mission strategies in order to support our connection of United Methodist Churches, as well as other church partners, and non-profit partners while reducing demands on our individual outreach teams and volunteers and staff. The sustainable shipping container project will be led by our design team; Queen Cora Coleman of Building Simple who is the former drummer for Prince and Beyonce, Howard University Alumni and community developer specializing in sustainable and repurpose materials. She is joined by veteran sustainable engineer, architect and community leader Desmond Baker for Demond Baker and Associates.
