Strand Class
July 11, 2021 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Tony McFadden is teaching Strand at Antonios Ballroom in Wilmington.
Strand is one of the many urban dances that are a part of our Black culture. It’s slow. Graceful. Very Romantic. Elegant. Easy to learn but takes practice to master. Strand became well known when the segregated dance show American Bandstand went national. The kids from the show would visit the Strand Ballroom in Philadelphia to “watch” the steps that the urban kids were doing. The dance became an instant hit.
Tony McFadden is a professional dance instructor and competitor that specializes in urban dance and its history. Classes start promptly at 4pm with a line dance then progress to the dance he’s teaching (Salsa, ChaCha, Bop, Waltz, Strand). His classes are fun and its a real good workout. Cost is $5.
Antonio’s Ballroom is a new venue that opened in February. It’s located near the corner of Marsh Rd and Philadelphia Pk, across from the diner. The bartenders are friendly and their is usually a caterer cooking fish and selling dinners ($10-12).
Tony teaches class from 4-6pm every Sunday, then DJ KayGee starts the dance party. It promises to be a fun time and a great warmup for the White Party.
