February Book Discussion: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman

March 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

“She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.” –Annie Dillard

Does your Goodreads list seem to keep growing? There is an abundance of great literature in the world and so many exciting things to learn about but still, it can be challenging to check books off your list.

Perhaps, participating in a thought-provoking, interactive conversation all while making new friends once a month might help you pick up that book?

Mark your calendar and join host, Jessica Kirschner, for our monthly book discussions where we’ll share our reading experiences, ideas, opinions, likes, dislikes, and so much more.

For the month of February, swing by your local library (or your Amazon app) and read “Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ.

This book discussion will foster an environment where critical thinking, reflection, and participation come alive.

“Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why. Daniel Goleman’s brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our “two minds”—the rational and the emotional—and how they together shape our destiny.

Drawing on groundbreaking brain and behavioral research, Goleman shows the factors at work when people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do surprisingly well. These factors, which include self-awareness, self-discipline, and empathy, add up to a different way of being smart—and they aren’t fixed at birth. Although shaped by childhood experiences, emotional intelligence can be nurtured and strengthened throughout our adulthood—with immediate benefits to our health, our relationships, and our work.”
